FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. I want to buy a dive belt but don't know what weight to choose?

A. The weight of a dive belt is dependent on several factors to achieve optimal buoyancy and positioning in the water. These include your own body weight and composition; the type of suit or mermaid tail you are wearing (fabric or silicone) and if you are swimming in fresh or salt water. Our weighted dive belts start at 500 grams which can be worn on front or back and secured via a tied cord or fabric. We sell most of our diving belts in increments of +500 grams (1kg of weight for the Cassidae belt, and 500gm up to 1.5kg of weights for Aura belt).

Weight belts provide some assistance however we cannot guarantee you will achieve your optimal buoyancy given the individual nature of diving belts and the location you may be swimming. We can guarantee you will look great.

Q. I have never worn a dive belt before, is it safe?

A. We recommend that you always swim with a buddy, or a number of friends/mers regardless of wearing a dive belt or not. Our products are for confident swimmers only - they are not intended as a swimming aid or lifesaving device. Even if you are a competent swimmer, safety in the water is priority for everyone. The dive belts are secured via fabric tie or cord which can be taken off by pulling undone the knot or bow (like you would a shoelace). We do not recommend making complex knots that you cannot undo quickly - this will ensure you can take it off if needed.

We disclaim liability for any injury or worse resulting from the improper use of our products.

Q. How do I put on the dive belt?

CASSIDAE TWO PIECE BELT

A. For front and back belts we recommend tying one side while both are lying flat, then support both silicone pieces while tying the other side. This will ensure you don't put any unnecessary pressure on the metal d-rings which could cause the silicone to rip. The belt should sit comfortably on your waist.

A. For front and back belts another option is to use a long cord and thread the silicone pieces onto the cord, support them as you put the cord around your waist and tie on one side

A. For a one side belt (eg. front only) with a long cord or fabric tie, support the silicone piece while tying the belt around your waist. Again, please don't put any unnecessary pressure on the metal d-rings which could cause the silicone to rip.

AURA BELT

A. Hold the belt in position around your hips and secure via tie through the d-rings.

Q. How long will my silicone item last?

A. The silicone products we sell are made of high-quality platinum silicone that is safe on the skin, strong and stretchy. They are made to be worn and enjoyed, and unless stipulated we assume you will be swimming in the items. Fair wear and tear should be expected; however, it is possible to fix any silicone tears that may occur with Silpoxy or any other silicone compatible adhesive sold online. This is also what is used to mend silicone mermaid tails.

Q. How do I keep my metal item from tarnishing?

A. With any item that is worn in salt water, rinse off after use, wipe down and leave to dry completely. This will reduce the risk of saltwater corroding the metal components.

Q. How do I keep my necklace / crown from tarnishing?

A. Please ensure that after use items are wiped down and air dry completely. Some of our jewelry is made with copper, and although lacquered and sealed prior to sale, it can be still prone to tarnish. This can be remedied with a wipe down of salt / vinegar solution or similar to remove the tarnish and bring back to original condition.

Crowns are delicate items and are made with a combination of materials including resin, wire, fabric, thermoplastic etc. Avoid direct heat and ensure items are thoroughly dried before packing away. Consider using a hair dryer on cool air to speed up the process.

Q. I want a specific colour product, do you make custom pieces?

A. We have a number of pre-made items, and ready to wear in various sizes. We have openings for custom orders from time to time. Join our mailing list and socials to be first to know.

Q. How much colour variation should be expected?

A. We do our best to post photos and videos of our products that closely represent how they look in real life. As you can appreciate, each item is handmade and the batch of product, pigment and colour has been chosen at time of fabrication. There may be a slight colour variations, however for matching sets we attempt to make them match (e.g. front and back diving belt). Please keep in mind that different devices may slightly vary a products colour depending on the devices' visual calibration.
